Business Calendars
A Business Calendar saves the days your organisation treats as working days. Choose a country and region, set your working week, then add company holidays or excluded dates.
Why you would use one
The free business days calculator assumes Monday to Friday and asks you to type any holidays yourself. That is fine once. It is not fine when the same rules have to apply to every calculation your team, API integration or widget makes.
A saved calendar is resolved on the server, so the API, batch jobs, reports and widgets all use exactly the same rules and produce the same answer.
Countries and subdivisions
Public holidays often differ inside one country. A calendar set to Germany without a state will not include a Bavarian holiday, and a calendar set to the United States without a state will not include a state-only day.
If you pick a subdivision the data source does not support, Calcadian tells you and refuses to save. It never quietly falls back to national rules, because a silent fallback would give you confident wrong answers.
Working week
Pick the weekdays you actually work. A Sunday to Thursday week is as valid as Monday to Friday, and the engine treats every non-working weekday the same way it treats a holiday.
Public holidays, custom holidays and excluded dates
- Public holidays come from the holiday data source and follow the country and subdivision you chose. You can turn them off entirely.
- Custom holidays are days your organisation observes that are not public holidays, such as a founding day.
- Excluded dates are one-off closures, such as a stocktake or an office move.
Observed and substitute days follow the source data. Where a country moves a holiday that falls on a weekend, the substitute day is what the calendar uses. See data sources.
Testing a calendar
Every calendar has a test view. Enter a start date and a number of working days and Calcadian shows the result together with what it skipped: non-working weekdays, public holidays and your own exclusions, each counted separately. Check a month you know well before you rely on it.
Limits
- Pro: 5 saved calendars.
- Business: 25 saved calendars.
Archiving a calendar frees a slot and keeps its rules. Anything referring to an archived calendar, such as a widget, reports a configuration problem rather than switching to different rules.
