Date and Time Difference Calculator
Enter two dates with their clock times and get the exact elapsed time between them, in days, hours and minutes as well as running totals.
How many hours are there between two dates and times?
Work out the real elapsed time between the two instants, then convert it to hours. For example 19 September 08:30 to 22 September 17:15 is 3 days 8 hours 45 minutes, or 80 hours 45 minutes in total. Enter both date-times below to see every breakdown.
Your result will appear here after you press Calculate.
What the difference between two date-times means
The answer is the amount of real time that passed between the two moments. Because the clock time is part of the input, a span from Monday 23:30 to Tuesday 00:30 is one hour, not one day.
Total hours vs calendar days
Calendar days count date changes. Total hours count elapsed time. Three calendar days is usually 72 hours, but only if both ends sit at the same clock time and no daylight-saving change happened in between.
Overnight spans
Night shifts and long-haul journeys cross midnight. Enter both dates rather than only the times and the rollover is handled for you.
Daylight-saving changes
If your region moves its clocks during the span, the elapsed time reflects it. A spring-forward weekend gives 23 hours in the day the clocks moved, and an autumn fall-back gives 25. If you enter a clock time that never existed because of a spring-forward jump, the calculator tells you instead of quietly shifting it. Repeated clock times during fall-back are resolved by your browser, which normally picks the first occurrence.
When to use Date Difference instead
If the clock time does not matter, the Date Difference calculator is simpler and answers in days, weeks, months and years.
Worked example
19 September 2026 at 08:30 to 22 September 2026 at 17:15 is 3 days 8 hours 45 minutes, which is 80 total hours and 4,845 total minutes.
