Counting down to a date and time
A countdown measures the gap between now and a fixed future moment. Because the clock time is part of it, the answer is precise to the second rather than rounded to whole days.
Days compared with total hours
The same countdown can be read two ways. Three days and six hours is also 78 total hours. Days and hours are easier to say out loud, while total hours are easier to compare between deadlines.
