How do you calculate the number of days between two dates?

To calculate the number of days between two dates, subtract the earlier date from the later date — the result is the count of full days separating them. Add one to that total if you want to include both the start and end dates. The calculator below does both for any two dates.

Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate the number of days between two dates?
Subtract the earlier date from the later date. The result is the count of full calendar days between them. To include both endpoints, add one to the total. Calcadian does this automatically and also shows weeks, months, and years.
Does the calculator include the start and end date?
By default it counts the gap between the two dates, so a Monday-to-Wednesday range is 2 days. Turn on “Include end date” to count both endpoints, which makes the same range 3 days.
How many days are between two dates in Excel?
Excel uses =DATEDIF(start, end, "d") or simply end − start. Calcadian gives the same answer in your browser with no formula, plus weeks, months, and years on top.
Can I calculate business days instead?
Yes — use the Business Days Calculator to exclude weekends and any custom holiday dates you observe.
Why are months not always the same length?
Calendar months range from 28 to 31 days. Calcadian computes years, months, and days by walking the calendar, so the result reflects real months, not a 30-day approximation.
